Just say No -- for the money, you can do better.
I selected Elizabeth Shutters based in part on reviews from TrustLink, so I thought I'd provide my own experiences. Made an inquiry on their web site and was contacted promptly by a very professional, knowledgeable salesperson. She visited my house, took careful measurements and my deposit. I was adding shutters to my existing living room so matching the color of existing woodwork was important. They charged a breathtaking $100 "chemist fee" to match my existing shutters and took a sample piece of wood with her. Thought "gee that's a lot, but if that's what it takes to get it right, I'll pay." Then SIX WEEKS went by. No word at all. Hellooooo? Contacted the salesperson who found out that my order had somehow slipped between the cracks. Another week later a color sample shows up with a release form they expected me to sign stating that I agreed that the color was good enough and that this was as close as they could match. Well... the color they sent me was PINK. My existing wood was WHITE. Which made me wonder if their "chemist" was any good at all. I called my sales rep and told her that I could get closer in color by having the high school student at Home Depot mix me up some paint. (They don't charge a "chemist fee" either, I noted.) So they tried again. The salesperson called to tell me that the color should be great now. Another week and a half goes by. The sample arrived and it was STILL PINK. Worn out and sick of it all (and to my lasting regret) I accepted the color so I could get my shutters installed before holiday visitors arrived. A month later, delivery and installation came along. The installer seemed very professional and put things up promptly. On completion, the installer then handed cans of the touch up paint and said I could use this to touch up all the nail holes he had made and filled. I took a look at all the shutters (installed more than 8 ft off the floor) and there were dozens of little spots to touch up. Then I realized that there were some BIG spots on the paint that had someone's thumb print in it -- factory errors, I guess. I asked if he wouldn't please fix the nail holes and thumbprint. He agreed to do so and it looked fine. (Why do I have to ask them to finish the job? I wondered.) But there is more. On 4 of the shutters, the fit isn't right at all. (This is pretty basic, don't you think?) There is a strip of light that comes through the bottom of the shutter. (Think they undersized the shutter a little bit.) I wrote these problems on my "acceptance" of the work and in a review to the sales rep, but never heard a thing back. I waited more than two months to write this review to give them a chance to respond. So my advice is -- be careful -- and probably look around some more. I think the shutters are probably well constructed. However, I really didn't see any exceptional commitment to getting the product right when problems were pointed out -- either on color or on the fit. And these folks are not cheap. For this type of lasting product, you deserve to have things done correctly, and if my experience is any guide, you might well not get what you expect from Elizabeth Shutters.
